For the third consecutive year, the Adams County Regional Medical Center (ACRMC) and its Family Medicine clinics have championed preventative health care through their community-wide, low-cost blood screening event in June. This year's event was the most successful yet, with 843 participants, significantly surpassing the previous years' numbers of 300 and 686.
Dr. Hannah Hopkins, a key advocate for the initiative, emphasized the importance of such efforts. "Preventative health care is crucial for early detection and management of potential health issues," Dr. Hopkins stated. "Regular blood screenings can uncover underlying conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and thyroid disorders, enabling timely intervention and better health outcomes. ACRMC is committed to fostering a healthier community through such initiatives."
The comprehensive blood screening, offered at just $35, included tests for glucose, BUN, creatinine, albumin, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide, calcium, total protein, total bilirubin, ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, TSH, CBC, and HgbA1C. Additionally, screenings for PSA (prostate-specific antigen) and TST (testosterone) were available for $12 each. These affordable options provide valuable insights into one’s health, making preventative care attainable for all.
To make the event more exciting, staff at the medical center and ACRMC Family Medicine locations in Adams and Brown counties competed to see who could screen the most participants. The West Union clinic won with over 300 screenings, thanks to their excellent outreach and strong patient relationships. Shelby, a dedicated medical assistant at West Union, played a key role in this success.
Shelby's commitment and enthusiasm have been instrumental since the event's inception. Her strong relationships with patients and her deep-seated dedication to community health played a pivotal role in the clinic's achievement. Shelby’s efforts exemplify the power of personal connections in healthcare. She is part of a growing team of doctors, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and other medical and administrative staff who work to bring quality healthcare close to home.
"I look forward to this event every year," Shelby expressed with pride. "It's rewarding to see our community taking steps towards better health, and I am proud to be a part of it."
Shelby's genuine care and the trust she has built with patients underscore the event's success. Her role highlights the significance of strong patient-provider relationships in promoting community health.
As ACRMC reflects on this year's success, plans are already underway for next year's event, aiming to reach even more community members. The medical center extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this year's triumph. Together, they are building a healthier future for Adams County.
